My life has been quite a journey, besides movement and change, the one thing that I've kept constant in my life from the time I was a teenager has always been my tai chi and kung fu practice.
Practicing tai chi is a lot more than simply doing the movements, it's about embodying a balanced way of life. Practicing Kung fu is more about being an honorable person than it is about self defense, or martial arts. Literally kung fu means achieving skill through hard work, and to that point we must have strength and great skill to be honorable people.
Anybody can repeat definitions and elaborate on stuff... so, why learn from me?
Personally I feel like I can easily relate everything I teach to give you value in most, if not all, parts of your life.
Since you clicked on this page I assume you'd like to know a little more about me. So, here's an abreviated version, you'll have to find out more by coming to class. ;)
I grew up in Wadsworth OH. Had a rough upbringing, started Karate when I was in junior high. About 2 yrs later (2004) I started Kung Fu and Tai Chi w/ Sifu Dave Cial of Hing Sing Kwan Ying Dao. Dave and Maryann Cial would later become like parents to me. (They still are)
I trained consistently with them until I joined the infantry. I left for the United States Marine Corps in late 2005. Did a tour to Ramahdi Iraq in 2006, Garmsir Afghanistan 2009. Completed my service honorably. Went to school in Chicago IL at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine from 2010-2012 ish. Started teaching tai chi as a tutor and teachers assistant for Dr. Tony Zayner, who is also a father figure to me. Dr. T certified me to teach tai chi in late 2011.
In 2012 I moved back to Ohio and got my massage license. Dave Cial made me an assistant instructor for tai chi and kids kung fu classes at Hing Sing School a few months after my return. Got introduced to Master Ron Mohr and Mike Biggie of Akron Kung Fu in 2012. Taught a few seminars for Master Ron Mohr's students @ Hong Sing Kwan Ying Dao.
Moved down to NC in 2013 got my massage license transfered to NC in 2014, have been working as a massage therapist here in NC ever since. In 2016 I became a nationally certified continuing education provider for other massage thrapists, and have been teaching our style of massage to other profesionals in the field ever since.
In 2017 Dave Cial tested and ranked me as a Green Sash and officially gave me permission to teach Kwan Ying Dao Kung Fu. On 8-2-2023 I met with Master Ron Mohr, he gave me a lot of material on Kwan Ying Dao with the goal of organizing and systemising the style to carry it on for future generations. For the past few years Dave Cial and I have been working to resurrect our lineage of Kwan Ying Dao here in NC.
